When I saw Rito's blog post today, I was, as usual, mesmerized. I missed school, after what is probably years now, because I realized I miss him. It was perhaps him, who first showed me a way outside of the regular school syllabus, which I was not faring well at. There was unheard music, unread books, unseen places and unnoticed movies, waiting. Here I will take a moment and tell you all, that a school yearly syllabus is not the only study material that exists in the world (I am well of in studies now). But, you know that already. Probably read it in a click-bait online post, from a leading newspaper magazine that went... "Top 10 outside-syllabus books" (just kidding, at this point).
This inevitably reminds me of certain Facebook Pages. And of-course, being a writer, and an occasional blogger (hardly true; will come to that later), I am shocked to see a not-so-recent development on Social Media Sites. A group of artistes, create a page. They create another page with essentially same artistes. Then the pages promote and "share" each other. They recruit some new artistes. And then with a bigger group, they make pages again with essentially the same artistes and promote each other. And the loop goes on. Interestingly. the new recruits are fewer in number every time. Then it is a mere process of reshuffling the artistes on deck for each page. Inevitably, the forum is saturated with dummy(?) pages with artistes belonging to the same mother banner. Well, at least to me, this does not look like artiste endorsement. Now, in a forum filled to the brim with the same people who share and promote each others' and own work, where does an independent artiste stand? Does he have subscription? Is he given an endorsement by any of these groups? Is he not good enough? Is the independent scene in Kolkata and West Bengal so poor, that it cannot do good without a so-called endorsement? I know for a fact, Sucheto is an exceptional writer, who can lay waste to any writer or any English Degree Student. Yes, my seniors at University have utmost respect and admiration for Sucheto. Is he still not good enough to be endorsed? And if endorsed, will he be allowed to write his will? Or will he be edited into mediocrity and will be made to compromise with his integrity by being made to promote things he doesn't want to?
Perhaps, Sucheto is not keen on more readership, and is happy with whatever he has. What would be the harm, if he got a bit more exposure amidst this mess? Getting published is not easy. Blogs are mighty powerful in recent times. It is a new literary style. There is only acceptance in denying it. And it is a genre, where amateurs can publish themselves. So, my ideology calls for more power to amateur, individual artistes.
And about the insistence part. Rito reminded me today that I do have a blog which I could to update. On a serious note, the gravity of the situation insisted me to write this. And though I will be content with two reads, it wouldn't be a disaster if more people read it.
